Raised in Sacramento, 1 began painting in my teens and was drawn into the lives of the Renaissance artists. 1 received my Bachelor of Arts degree from CSU Sacramento and then studied art for a year in Florence, Italy at the Academia
Delle Belle Arte. This Classical and Academic training increased my awareness of nature and allows me to use my skill in portraiture to give life to my subjects. I have studied with several key mentors, the late Frank Covino who provided a wealth of knowledge on color and composition, Johnnie Liliedahl in her oil painting school , and most recently with renowned wildlife realistic painter and author John Seery-lester.
My paintings start as conceptual drawings where I work out the composition, next I complete a tonal painting done in a single color. Then the tonal painting is repainted bringing the canvas to life with color.
I love the opportunity to create images from a blank canvas, imbuing them with both form and color. I enjoy depicting God's little creatures, birds, rabbits and squirrels, as well as, their hunters, such as fox, wolves in natural habitat.
