Verena Borton

Master Weaver

I represent the third generation in my family's weaving tradition. Although I have taught crafts since 1959, functional woven textiles became my focus in the 1980s. Currently I weave primarily throws, baby blankets, shawls and scarves. I maintain a large weaving studio at the Davis Arts Center for year-round classes.

Combining colors, textures and patterns into one-of-a-kind articles is my favorite mode of creative expression. Using unique, often hand-dyed, fibers that tend to be in short supply ensures that I can rarely repeat a product and as a result, I never get bored.
